Jon Harris (born July 11, 1967 in Sheffield , England ) is a British film editor and film director . He was nominated for an Oscar in 2011 for his film editing of 127 Hours .

life and career

Harris, who was born in Sheffield , South Yorkshire , in the summer of 1967, made his first notable work in film and television in 1995, when he was the third assistant director alongside director Gary Sinyor and was assistant editor at The Turnaround that same year . After he was hired as a second assistant editor in the films Immer wieder Saturday and Joseph Conrad's The Secret Agent in 1996 , he got his first engagement as an executive film editor in 1998. He took over the editing of the Oscar-nominated British short film Holiday Romance , which is also known under the name A Lust for Life .

After Harris was hired as editor for an episode of Comedy Lab in 1999 , two films followed in the following year in which he worked as a film editor: The Irish short film The Second Death (starring among others with Liam Cunningham , Michelle Fairley , Aidan Gillen ) and the award-winning film Snatch - Pigs and Diamonds , for which he received the 2001 Phoenix Film Critics Society Award in the category “Best Film Editing”. Harris finally made his directorial debut in 2009 with The Descent 2 - The Hunt Goes On , the sequel to the 2005 film, for which he not only directed but was also responsible for editing. 2010 saw the editing of two blockbusters. He did the editing first for the film Kick-Ass and later for the umpteen times nominated and among other things even nominated for six Oscars film 127 Hours . For the first time in his career he was nominated for an Oscar (in the category " Best Editing ") for his work , after he had previously worked on two Oscar-nominated works.
