Jonas Müller (born April 2, 1996 in Gießen ) is a German handball player and is considered a great young talent in his sport. The nickname "Gerd" is an allusion to the footballer Gerd Müller in relation to his surname and his scoring risk .

Career

Müller began his club career at HSG Wettenberg in a town next to his hometown Gießen . With effect from July 1, 2012, he moved to the youth department at HSG Wetzlar . There he went through various youth teams and had successful years. For example, he was able to secure two German runner-up championships with the teams: On June 8, 2013, in the final of the B youth championship, only the Füchsen Berlin had to be defeated. Müller scored twelve goals in this game and the decision to 39:41 was only made in the seven-meter throw . In May 2015, HSG Wetzlar lost to SC DHfK Leipzig in the final of the A youth championship (32:26 / 25:33).

During the Bundesliga season 2014/15 Müller had already counted on the tenth matchday (October 26, 2014) against SC Magdeburg and on the eleventh matchday (November 5, 2014) against SG BBM Bietigheim in coach Kai Wandschneider's squad . A little later, on November 7, 2014, he signed a contract with HSG Wetzlar dated June 30, 2017 and was accepted into the expanded professional squad. National team

Müller made such a good impression at the final tournament for the German B-Youth Championship in 2013 that DHB youth coordinator Christian Schwarzer became aware of him. He invited him to additional training in the DHB junior base in the Wetzlar district of Dutenhofen and appointed him to the squad of the youth national team born in 1996 and younger. At the beginning of July 2013, Müller completed three international matches against France. In 2014 he took part in the U-18 European Championship , which was held in Poland in August . In this competition, the German team ultimately achieved seventh place.

In total, Müller completed 19 games for the youth national team.

Private life

In 2015 he passed his Abitur at the Herderschule Gießen .
