Jonas Svensson (born October 21, 1966 in Gothenburg ) is a former Swedish tennis player .

Career

Svensson reached the semi-finals in the junior competition of the Wimbledon Championships in 1983 and turned professional two years later. In his career he won five singles and one double title on the ATP World Tour and in 1991 reached 10th place, his highest ranking in the ATP world rankings .

In 1986 he won his first individual title at the Cologne Grand Prix in Cologne. In the following two years he won the BA Tennis Trophy in Vienna and the Lorraine Open in Metz. In 1990 he won the Grand Prix de Tennis de Toulouse in Toulouse, his last tournament victory he won at the Copenhagen Open , where he defeated his compatriot Anders Järryd in the final . Svensson reached the semi-finals of the French Open twice as an unset player . In 1988 he was defeated by Henri Leconte after defeating Ivan Lendl . Two years later he defeated Leconte in the quarterfinals and then lost to Andre Agassi .

In doubles he was successful in 1987 at the Regions Morgan Keegan Championships in Memphis at the side of Anders Järryd, two years earlier he was together with Jaroslav Navrátil in the finals of the indoor tournament in Nancy .

Svensson played nine individual games for the Swedish Davis Cup team between 1989 and 1991 , his record shows seven wins and two defeats. The Swedish team at the time included Stefan Edberg , Mats Wilander , Jan Gunnarsson and Anders Järryd. With his victories over Goran Ivanišević and Goran Prpić in the semifinals against Yugoslavia , he made a significant contribution to the Davis Cup final in 1989, which was then lost to Germany . In the final, however, Svensson was not used.

Until the mid-1980s he was listed in the tennis statistics under Jonas B. Svensson, as his compatriot Jonas A. Svensson also played on the tour.
