Jonathan Félisaz (born October 26, 1985 in Chamonix ) is a former French skier who mainly competed in Nordic combined and ski jumping , but also cross-country skiing and alpine skier.

Career

Félisaz lives in his native Chamonix and started for the Argentière Chamonix association. In December 2002 he started internationally in Klingenthal for the first time and competed in two FIS competitions each in Nordic combined and ski jumping . In the Gundersen singles he reached 28th place. In ski jumping he only landed in the back of the list. Despite this success, he only started in ski jumping at the Nordic Junior World Ski Championships in 2003 in Sollefteå . In the individual, however, he did not get above rank 61. Even with the team, he only finished 12th.

In March 2003 Félisaz competed with less success in two junior competitions in Planica . On December 21, 2003, he competed in his first B World Cup competition in Ruhpolding . With rank 53, however, he fell short of expectations and therefore stayed in the junior area and started in lower-class FIS Nordic Combined competitions. At the Nordic Junior World Ski Championships in 2004 in Stryn , Félisaz was able to achieve 12th place in the Gundersen singles and thus a significant increase over 2003. With the team he ended up in sixth place in the team competition. In the sprint it was only enough for him to rank 30. In the ski jumping competitions he did not start.

At the 2004 Summer Grand Prix in Kandersteg , Félisaz just barely missed his first point placement in an A-class race, finishing 32nd. Thereupon he received no fixed starting place in the A or B squad at the start of the 2004/05 season. In February 2005 he achieved his first point placement in the B World Cup in Karpacz . In March, he made it onto the podium twice at FIS races in Pragelato . At the Nordic Junior World Ski Championships 2005 in Rovaniemi , he started only in the sprint and reached 28th place.

The Frenchman started the next two years mainly in the B-World Cup, where he made it into the top ten several times and finished third in Val di Fiemme in early 2007. In February 2005 and 2006 he started as a special jumper as part of the FIS Cup , but could not assert himself there. Although he reached the points within the top 20 in all three competitions, he missed out on top places.

On November 30, 2007 Félisaz started in Kuusamo for the first time in the Nordic Combined World Cup and was 35th in the Gundersen race. A little later, he won points for the first time in Ramsau am Dachstein as the 28th of a mass start. Although he was again in the points in the second race, he stayed in the B squad for the B World Cup. It was not until the 2008/09 season that he moved permanently to the senior national team. In January 2009, he was also given a starting place in the French relay team at the Team World Cup for the first time and landed with the team in fifth place straight away. On January 31, he was 13th in Chaux-Neuve , his best individual result to date. Also in the second competition he finished 14th in a good top 20 place. At the Nordic World Ski Championships in Liberec in 2009 , Félisaz came in 32nd in the mass start before finishing 40th in the individual from the normal hill.

Together with Alexandre Mabboux , Braud and Vincent Descombes Sevoie , Félisaz won the team jumping title as Team Mont Blanc I at the French Ski Jumping Championships in 2009 , and he finished seventh in the individual competition. Shortly thereafter, he finished the most successful World Cup season of his career in 41st place in the overall World Cup standings.

At the 2009 Summer Grand Prix, Félisaz made it onto the podium twice in second place in Hinterzarten and in Val di Fiemme. He was also able to place well in Oberstdorf and Einsiedeln and finished the Grand Prix in second place overall. For the 2009/10 World Cup season , Félisaz was unable to build on the good performances from the summer. He often missed the World Cup points in the first half of the season. Despite the lack of front placements, he was part of the squad for the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver . There he achieved 30th place in the individual competition. Three weeks before the games, Félisaz and the team at the Team World Cup finished second for the first and only time in his career on the podium at a World Cup.

After the Olympic Games, Félisaz switched back to the B World Cup, which from this season was officially called the Continental Cup. However, he did not succeed in establishing himself there or in his numerous World Cup appearances. He then ended his active career in 2011.
