Jorge Curbelo , full name Jorge Winston Curbelo Garis , (born December 21, 1981 in Montevideo , Uruguay ), called El Pato , is a Uruguayan football player who also has German citizenship. He plays in the defense mainly as a central defender .

Career

society

Jorge Curbelo began his career at a lower class Uruguayan club in Ombúes de Lavalle . After two years, he was signed in January 2002 by first division club Danubio FC . In the first year, however, he came only to one use, while in 2003 he became a regular player. In July 2004, Curbelo was loaned to the Belgian first division club Standard Liège . There he played sixteen games, but was still not firmly committed. In the 2005/06 season he was loaned to the Spanish second division Real Valladolid . Since he only came to twelve missions and was consequently not committed. Therefore, Curbelo returned to Uruguay in the summer of 2006 and moved to River Plate Montevideo . After a year and twelve league games for the Montevideans, he moved to the Argentine second division club Godoy Cruz . Despite the promotion to the first division, he moved to the Uruguayan champions Defensor in the summer of 2008 , where he played 25 league games (one goal). In addition, the Montevidean club has one Liguilla appearance as well as two in the Copa Sudamerica and nine in the Copa Libertadores . He then returned to Godoy Cruz and has since played in the Argentine Primera División . In late 2010 and early 2011, Curbelo fell out for several months after breaking his ankle while training in November 2010. Until his last appearance on October 20, 2013, he completed 94 league games as part of his second engagement with the club from Mendoza, in which he scored three goals. There are also four appearances in the Copa Libertadores (one goal). In early January 2014, he joined Nacional Montevideo , having previously terminated his contract with the Argentines. For the Bolsos , he played in two games in the Primera División and in six games of the Copa Libertadores 2014 (no goal). After the season he moved to the Argentine club Arsenal de Sarandí . There he was used in 26 first division games (no goal). At the beginning of July 2016 he joined Gimnasia y Esgrima de Mendoza , for which he has so far (as of March 3, 2017) completed twelve games (no goal) in Torneo Argentino A.

National team

So far, Curbelo has played an international match (as of October 16, 2012) for the Uruguayan national soccer team . He celebrated his debut in the senior national team with a starting eleven on February 18, 2004 in a friendly against the Jamaican selection. At Torneo Preolímpico 2004 he was the captain of the Celeste U23 team. During the tournament, he completed two international matches under coach Juan Ramón Carrasco , when he was used in the 1-1 draw on January 11, 2004 against Brazil and two days later in the match against Venezuela, which ended with the same result. In the last-mentioned encounter, he was sent off the field using a “traffic light card”.

Private

Jorge Curbelo has an older brother Juan Ramón (born May 2, 1979), who is also a professional footballer. In the 2004/05 season they played together at Standard Liège and in the 2006/07 season at River Plate Montevideo . He is also Daniel Fonseca's half-brother .
