Jorge Eduardo Lozano

Jorge Eduardo Lozano (born February 10, 1955 in Buenos Aires ) is an Argentine, Roman Catholic clergyman and archbishop of San Juan de Cuyo .

Life

Jorge Eduardo Lozano attended the Escuela Industrial de la Nación “Otto Krausse” (today: Escuela de Educación Técnica N ° 1 Otto Krause) and graduated in 1973 with a diploma in electrical engineering. He also studied engineering at the Universidad Tecnológica Nacional (UTN) . At the age of 22 he entered the diocesan seminary of the Archdiocese of Buenos Aires and studied philosophy and theology. At the Universidad Católica Argentina Santa María de los Buenos Aires (UCA) , he completed his theological studies and received on 3 December in 1982 by the Archbishop of Buenos Aires, Juan Carlos Cardinal Aramburu , in Estadio Obras Sanitarias in Buenos Aires the priesthood . After his ordination, he continued his education with a study of pastoral theology at the Theological Faculty of the UCA and pastoral training courses at the Bishops' Conference of Argentina. He attended courses at the Instituto Teológico-Pastoral para América Latina del CELAM (ITEPAL) in Bogotá (1997) and at the Planificación Pastoral de Conjunto in Córdoba (1991).

Lozano was parish vicar in San Ignacio de Loyola (1983–1985) and Nuestra Señora de Balvanera (1985–1988) and pastor in Nuestra Señora de la Anunciación . From 1983 to 1987 he was a board member of the Catholic Action of Buenos Aires. He was Vice-President of the Episcopal Commission for Education in the Archdiocese of Buenos Aires (1990/92), Director of Episcopal Pastoral Care, Secretary of the Pastoral Council of the Archdiocese, Coordinator of Pastoral Planning, Delegate for the Jubilee of the Archdiocese of Buenos Aires and has been a member of the Council of Priests since 1996.

Pope John Paul II appointed him titular bishop of Furnos Maior and auxiliary bishop in Buenos Aires on January 4, 2000 . He was ordained episcopal on March 25, 2000 by the Archbishop of Buenos Aires, Cardinal Jorge Mario Bergoglio SJ ; Co- consecrators were Raúl Omar Rossi , Bishop of San Martín , and Mario José Serra , Auxiliary Bishop in Buenos Aires.

On December 22, 2005, Pope Benedict XVI appointed him . to the Bishop of Gualeguaychú . The inauguration ( enthronement ) took place on March 11, 2006.

Pope Francis appointed him coadjutor archbishop of San Juan de Cuyo on August 31, 2016 . With the resignation of Alfonso Delgado Evers on June 17, 2017, he succeeded him as Archbishop of San Juan de Cuyo.

In the Argentine Bishops' Conference he is President of the Commission for Social Pastoral Care. He campaigns against youth unemployment in Argentina. and the legality and justice for farm workers.
