José Brandão de Castro

José Brandão de Castro CSsR (born May 24, 1919 in Rio Espera , Minas Gerais , Brazil , † December 23, 1999 ) was a Brazilian religious and bishop of Propriá .

Life

José Brandão de Castro joined the Congregation of the Redemptorists in and put on 2 February 1939, the perpetual profession from. Brandão de Castro received on 6 January 1944, the sacrament of Holy Orders .

On June 25, 1960 Pope John XXIII appointed him . to the first bishop of Propriá. The Apostolic Nuncio in Brazil, Archbishop Armando Lombardi , donated him episcopal ordination on September 21 of the same year ; Co- consecrators were the Bishop of Assis , José Lázaro Neves CM , and the Coadjutor Archbishop of Belo Horizonte , João Resende Costa SDB .

On October 30, 1987 Pope John Paul II accepted José Brandão de Castro's resignation for health reasons.

José Brandão de Castro attended all four sessions of the Second Vatican Council .
