José Humberto Cardinal Quintero Parra (born September 22, 1902 in Mucuchíes , Venezuela , † July 8, 1984 in Caracas ) was Archbishop of Caracas .

Life

José Humberto Quintero Parra received his doctorate from the Pontifical Gregorian University in the subjects of Catholic theology and canon law . In 1926 he received the sacrament of ordination and was then appointed parish chaplain for three years in the Archdiocese of Mérida. From 1929 to 1934 he worked as the personal secretary of the Archbishop of Mérida , and from 1929 to 1953 he was secretary of the diocesan curia and vicar general in the same place .

In 1953 Pope Pius XII appointed him . the Titular Archbishop of Achrida and Koadjutorerzbischof of Mérida. He was ordained bishop on December 6, 1953 in Rome by Cardinal Adeodato Giovanni Piazza , Bishop of Sabina e Poggio Mirteto , co-consecrators were Archbishop Luigi Centoz , former nuncio in Venezuela, and Archbishop Giuseppe Misuraca , also former nuncio in Venezuela. In 1960 Pope John XXIII commissioned him . with the direction of the Archdiocese of Caracas and took him on January 16, 1961 as a cardinal priest with the titular church Santi Andrea e Gregorio al Monte Celio in the College of Cardinals . From 1962 to 1965 he took part in all sessions of the Second Vatican Council and from 1958 to 1961 chaired the Bishops' Conference in his home country. He took part in the conclaves of 1963 , August 1978 and October 1978 .

In 1980 Pope John Paul II accepted his resignation due to reasons of age. José Humberto Quintero Parra died on July 8, 1984 in Caracas and was buried in Caracas Cathedral.
