José Luis Doreste Blanco (born September 18, 1956 in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria ) is a former Spanish sailor .

successes

José Luis Doreste took part in the Olympic Games five times . In 1976 in Montreal and 1980 in Moscow he started in the boat class Finn-Dinghy and finished the respective regatta in 12th and 17th place respectively. At the 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles , he started with Antonio Gorostegui in the Star boat class, and with this he finished the regatta in seventh place. Four years later he again took part in the Finn dinghy in Seoul , where he became Olympic champion . With 38.1 points, he was just ahead of Peter Holmberg with 40.4 points and John Cutler with 45 points in first place. At his 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta , he was seventh with Javier Hermida in the Star Class.

At world championships he won a total of five medals. In the Finn dinghy he won the silver medal in 1977 and the bronze medal in 1986, before finally becoming world champion in Kiel in 1987 . He won further titles in 1982 and 1983 with Antonio Gorostegui in the star boat. He was European champion in both boat classes: in 1982 in the Star and in 1988 in the Finn dinghy.

Doreste's family is closely connected to sailing. His brothers Gustavo , Luis and Manuel Doreste had also contested Olympic regattas.
