José Omar Pastoriza (born May 23, 1942 in Rosario , † August 2, 2004 in Buenos Aires ; nickname: El Pato ) was an Argentine football player and football coach .

In his playing career, Pastoriza was a midfielder and joined the Argentine national team at the 1966 World Cup . He was under contract with Racing Club Avellaneda , Independiente and AS Monaco . As a coach , he worked for 13 teams in six countries, mainly for club teams in Latin America . Pastoriza was Diego Forlán's uncle .

Player career

Born in Rosario in the province of Santa Fe in 1942 , Pastoriza played in the youth teams of Rosario Central and CA Colón . He began his professional career in 1964 at Racing Club Avellaneda .

From January 1966, Pastoriza played for Racing's local rivals Independiente , with whom he celebrated his greatest successes as a player: he won the Argentine championship three times with Independiente and the Copa Libertadores once . In total, he played 184 games for Independiente and scored 32 goals. In 1966 he took part in the World Cup in England , but was not used. In 1971 he was named Argentina's Footballer of the Year .

In 1972 Pastoriza moved to the French second division club AS Monaco , with whom he was promoted to Division 1 in 1973 and reached the final of the French Cup in 1974 . In 1975 he ended his playing career at Monaco.

Coaching career

In his career as a football coach, which he started in 1976, José Pastoriza worked for eleven clubs and two national teams in six countries. He was engaged several times at CA Independiente and CA Talleres in his home country Argentina, he also worked in Colombia , Brazil , Spain and Bolivia and coached the selection teams of El Salvador and Venezuela .

One of his successes as a coach is winning the Argentine championship several times with Independiente.

Pastoriza worked as a football coach until his death in Buenos Aires in 2004 at the age of 62.
