Josef Bauer (politician, 1898)

Josef Bauer (born March 30, 1898 in Langenfeld (Rhineland) , † January 2, 1982 in Gütersloh ) was a German district administrator.

Life

After attending elementary school and doing an apprenticeship as a commercial clerk, Josef Bauer became office manager before he was called up for military service on the Western Front from 1914 to 1918 . He was a year prisoner of war in England. The election as mayor of the city of Rheda fell on April 29, 1933. On October 28, 1935 he was entrusted with the provisional administration of the office of the mayor of Gütersloh and on February 28, 1936 he was definitely elected mayor of the city. In the period from March 19, 1944 to March 4, 1945, he also acted as the district administrator in Wiedenbrück . The British military government relieved him of the office of mayor on April 7, 1945 and interned him until September 25, 1947. He then found employment as managing director and authorized signatory at the Schneider meat and sausage factory in Rheda. He remained in this position until 1969. Bauer was a member of the Stahlhelm , later joined the NSDAP and in 1933 became a city councilor as a NSDAP member. After the war he was a member of the FDP . He was also a knowledgeable citizen on the administrative board of Sparkasse Gütersloh .
