Ludwig Carl Gottlob Praetorius von Richthofen (born September 13, 1837 in Berlin , † September 3, 1873 in Wiesbaden ) was a Prussian administrative lawyer .

Life

Ludwig von Richthofen was the son of the later diplomat Emil von Richthofen (1810–1895) and his wife Marie Augustin (1814–1891). His younger brother Oswald (1847-1906) also became a diplomat.

Richthofen attended a grammar school in Opole and passed the school leaving certificate there in 1855 . After his military service with the 2nd Guards Regiment on foot , he studied law in Berlin and Heidelberg , in 1860 he completed his studies with the second legal examination. He then applied to the Minden government and, at the age of 24, was temporarily appointed mayor of the city of Gütersloh in September 1861 , as the previous mayor, Friedrich Wilhelm Friebe (1813–1861), had died unexpectedly.

During Richthofen's tenure, the plans for the construction of the Sparkasse Gütersloh , the start of construction of the municipal gasworks and the construction of the Protestant hospital were made .

In February 1862 Richthofen resigned because the previous mayor of Unna Louis von Schell was appointed as the new mayor of Gütersloh. Richthofen was first lieutenant in the German-Danish War in 1864 in the 7th Brandenburg Infantry Regiment No. 60 , where he was honored with the Order of the Red Eagle 4th class with swords in the battle of Missunde , the Düppeler Schanzen and the Battle of Alsen . Then Richthofen was head of department at the Austro-Prussian condominium in the Duchy of Schleswig . He was also an officer in the German-Austrian War in 1866, wounded at the Battle of Langensalza and dismissed as captain. In April 1868 Richthofen became district administrator of the newly formed Eiderstedt district .

Richthofen therefore lived in the district town of Tönning and married Anna von Hartz (1845–1916) in November 1868. Marie von Richthofen (1871–1954) was the only child. In 1895 she married Major Georg Oskar Ferdinand Louis von Elbe. Because of an ailment, Richthofen sought healing in the spa in Wiesbaden, where he also died.
