Josha Frey (born March 18, 1959 in Heidelberg ; actually Josef Frey ) is a German graduate social pedagogue and politician from Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen . He has been a member of the state parliament of Baden-Württemberg since 2011 .

education and profession

Josha Frey grew up in Schwarzach and graduated from high school in Mosbach . From 1980 to 1985 he studied social pedagogy at the Catholic University of Applied Sciences in Freiburg, graduating as a qualified social pedagogue. His first job after graduating was as an employee of the Caritas Association for the Ortenau district . From 1987 he worked in various drug aid institutions in Basel and in 1994 switched to the cantonal youth welfare office in Basel. From 2001 to 2009 he was the addiction prevention officer in the canton of Basel-Stadt . Until he moved into the state parliament, Josha Frey was head of the voluntary work coordination office of the canton of Basel-Stadt . In 2011 he started his mandate in the state parliament of Baden-Württemberg for Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen. He was re-elected in 2016 with 31.7%.

Political activity

Josha Frey was politically active for the first time in the period from 1990 to 1994 as a member of the district executive of the Greens in the Lörrach district .

In 2011 he won a second mandate for Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen in the constituency of Lörrach . He is spokesman for European policy and addiction policy for the Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen parliamentary group in the Baden-Württemberg state parliament.

In the state elections in 2016, Frey won the direct mandate for the Greens of Baden-Württemberg in the constituency of Lörrach for the first time . Josha Frey has been a member of the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities in the Council of Europe since June 2016 . In 2018 he was elected chairman of the association and thus president of the Euro Institute in Kehl. Josha Frey was Vice President of the Upper Rhine Council in 2018/2019 . He has been the President of the Upper Rhine Council since January 2020. He is also the deputy of Muhterem Aras in the Committee of the Regions of the group The Greens / European Free Alliance .

Offices and memberships

Josha Frey has been a deputy member of the foundation board of the state foundation "Familie in Not" since September 2016. In the same year he became a member of the Advisory Board of the University of Freiburg.

Among other things, Frey is a member of BUND , IG Velo Lörrach, the German Red Cross and the Friends of the Haus Weitenau Addiction Clinic.

Josha Frey lives in Lörrach . He is Catholic, married and has one son.
