Josef Hirsch Janow

Josef Hirsch Janow , called "Hä-Hārīf" (born 1733 in Lissa , Greater Poland ; died on November 13, 1785 in Fürth ) was a German rabbi .

Hirsch Janow was the son of Abraham Janow, who probably came from Janów near Lublin . Hirsch Janow was a rabbi in Zülz , Upper Silesia . On 31 August 1777 he was chief rabbi in Poznan , beginning in 1778. Chief Rabbi in Fuerth.

In 1779 he signed the Fürth ban against the Mendelssohn Bible.

Salomon Maimon was his student.

Hirsch Janow was married to Rachel (died 1798), the daughter of the Altona chief rabbi Rafael Cohen . After Janow's death Rachel married Michel Speyer , Dajan in Hamburg .
