from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Josef Mahlmeister (born June 26, 1959 in Bad Kissingen ) is a German educator , storyteller , writer and Cologne-based small publisher .

Live and act

Josef Mahlmeister grew up in the Catholic children's home in Hammelburg . After training as a typesetter in the Birkeneck educational center in Hallbergmoos and working in Heilbronn , he moved to Cologne in 1983 , where he completed a second training as an educator and then worked in various day care facilities.

His work with children supported his preoccupation with children's and youth literature. Since the early 1990s he has been publishing his own work, mostly self-publishing . From 1982 to 1988, among other things, ten booklets of the "Kunterbunten Reihe" with 20 or 40 poems were published. In his "motley series" he also designed texts in modern visual and concrete poetry . This poetry was brought to the public in performances and readings .

Mahlmeister was the translator of the plays Wachtmeister Waldi (German premiere in 2000 in Cologne) and Satina the devil's daughter of the French writer Pierre Gripari . Occasionally he publishes reviews in various smaller cultural magazines such as " Die Gazette ".

In the middle of 2012 he became a member of the Association of German Writers (VS) in ver.di, Cologne district, from which he left in January 2013 for ideational reasons.

Josef Mahlmeister appears as a storyteller under his pseudonym Palabros de Cologne .

Publishing house Palabros de Cologne

Mahlmeister founded the small publishing house Palabros de Cologne in 1998, which publishes poetry , children's books and regional, sometimes multilingual anthologies in editions of a few hundred copies , many of them with their own graphics and photos. In addition to his own works, works by other authors such as Cheryl Chapman , Pierre Gripari, Klaus Hansen , Byron W. Sewell and illustrators such as Bonski , Miguel E. Riveros and Lusja Shatalova appear there .

The program included (from 2009 to 2014) the language learning series "WODOKU", which is based on the Japanese Sudoku . From 2014 it was taken over in an expanded reprint edition by the Munich Hueber Verlag . In addition to translations, in recent years he has increasingly turned to the genre of angels and cemeteries . This resulted in a photo book series about cemeteries, as the Cologne cemetery Melaten , the South Cemetery , the old part of Cologne's North Cemetery , the West Cemetery and the Vienna Central Cemetery .
