Josef Paar (born March 6, 1913 in Piding ; † September 21, 1997 in Piding) was a German wrestler .

Life

Josef Paar, called "Sepp", was the son of a farming family. He first worked in the restaurant business and completed an apprenticeship as a carpenter. He was a soldier from 1939 to 1945. After 1945 he founded a cabinet maker, which over the years developed into an interior construction company. As a young boy he wrestled with AC Bad Reichenhall and was German youth champion in 1931. He quickly made the connection to the German and international top class in wrestling. At the German championships in 1937 he defeated Fritz Schäfer from Ludwigshafen am Rhein, who was then considered unbeatable, and became German champion. Before the European Championships in Munich he was injured and could not compete. His "substitute" Fritz Schäfer became European champion. The war and the post-war period interrupted his career, after the war he still wrestled until 1950 and in that year led his AC Bad Reichenhall as a wrestler and coach to win the German team championship against SG Viktoria Eckenheim.
