Josef Rieber
Josef Rieber (born January 22, 1862 in Beschau , Bohemia , † December 4, 1934 in Prague ) was an Austrian priest , orientalist , canon lawyer and university professor in Prague.
Life
Josef Rieber was born in Petschau as the son of the clothing manufacturer Johann Rieber. He was studying Catholic theology in Prague when the German Karl Ferdinand University was spun off from Charles University . During his studies, he became a member of the KDStV Ferdinandea Prague in 1887 . He moved to the Friedrichs-Universität Halle , the Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Berlin and finally to the Jesuit Université Saint-Joseph in Beirut .
1887 Dr. theol. and ordained a priest , he became parish adjunct in Seifen in 1888 and then at the theological faculty of Karl Ferdinand University. Josef Rieber completed his habilitation in 1892 and gave lectures on canon law , catechetics and school pedagogy . At the same time he was a religion teacher at the German teacher training institute in Prague. Since 1896 he taught the Hebrew language . In 1897 he received an associate professor for canon law and Semitic languages . He became associate (1898) and full professor (1901) for Old Testament Bible studies and Semitic languages .
In 1905/06 he was rector of the Karl Ferdinand University. Appointed papal house prelate , he was chairman of the German section of the diocesan court of the Archdiocese of Prague . Even after the end of the Habsburg monarchy and the establishment of Czechoslovakia in 1919, he stayed in Prague. He died at the age of 75. He is the author of scientific studies, has received several awards, a. a. with the Order of the Iron Crown (Austria) (1908) and with the title Hofrat (1917).
Josef Rieber had the younger brother Alois Rieber , an academic sculptor in Prague.
