Josef Schulz (painter)

Josef Schulz (born November 27, 1893 in Salzburg ; † August 13, 1973 there ) was an Austrian elementary school teacher and painter .

Live and act

After attending the teacher training college in Salzburg, he moved to Vienna and was a guest auditor in Othmar Zeiler's master class at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna . Due to the consequences of a war injury , he was retired as a teacher in 1927. In 1928 he switched to Alois Delug's master class at the Vienna School of Applied Arts and in 1930 and 1931 he went on study trips to Paris and Berlin . From 1933 he belonged to the special association of Austrian artists based in Salzburg.

After working with drawings , he turned to oil painting , Anton Faistauer being his model. Under his guidance he worked on the frescoes in the foyer of the Kleiner Festspielhaus in Salzburg .

With his help, the Salzburg Art Association was rebuilt after the Second World War , he was a founding member of the Professional Association of Visual Artists in Salzburg and a member of the Innviertel Artists' Guild . In 1946 he was appointed to the art advisory board of the Salzburg provincial government and in 1948 he was awarded honorary membership of the Salzburg Cultural Association. The Ministry of Education honored him with the art promotion award. From 1950 he was a member of the commission for the award of the Austrian State Prize . Further honors were the award of the title Professor hc and the Golden Medal of the City of Salzburg. In 1968 the State of Salzburg honored him with the Silver Merit Sign .

His estate is in the Salzburg Museum .

Exhibitions

Together with Sergius Pauser he exhibited in the Galerie Würthle in Vienna. Further exhibition opportunities opened up through membership in the Künstlerhaus Wien , e.g. B. 1950 participation in the exhibition Masterpieces by Austrian Painters of the 20th Century .
