Josef Schuster (weightlifter)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Josef Schuster (born December 13, 1906 in Oberölkofen, Grafing near Munich , † 1996 ) was a German weightlifter .

Career

Josef Schuster grew up near Munich and began lifting weights in Grafing in 1924 . In 1926 he joined the Münchner SV and in 1930 the TSV 1860 Munich . It was very light and initially started in flyweight (up to 52 kg body weight) and from 1932 in bantam weight (up to 56 kg body weight). He remained in this class until the end of his active career, which lasted almost 30 years. Since the bantamweight was not advertised internationally at international championships until 1947, international successes were long denied him. Only shortly before the end of his career did he become vice European champion in Vienna in 1954 at the age of 47. Josef Schuster, who also set several world records, was after Max Walter's move to featherweight in the second half of the 1930s, together with Alois Schöbinger , Vienna, Erich Kielmann, Essen and the Americans Levan and Mungioli, the best bantamweight in the world.
