Mohamed Josef Shirdel (born April 3, 1993 in Hamburg ) is an Afghan-German soccer player . He has been under contract with SC Victoria Hamburg since the 2019/20 season and is a multiple Afghan national player.

Life

Shirdel was born on April 3, 1993 in Hamburg as the son of Afghan immigrants. Together with his three brothers, one of whom acts as his sports advisor, he grew up in his hometown. "Joe", as he is called in his environment, lived in Norderstedt until he moved to Flensburg .

Club career

Shirdel began his career at the Hamburg district club 1. FC Hellbrook . About the Hamburg gymnastics club from 1816 , he moved to the youth department of FC St. Pauli . From there, the trained striker went to Hamburger SV in the U-19 Bundesliga North / Northeast for the 2011/12 season . There he was used in 19 games and scored eight goals.

For the 2012/13 season Shirdel was pulled up to represent Hamburger SV in the Regionalliga Nord . He made his debut on August 25, 2012 in a 5-0 win against ETSV Weiche Flensburg , and scored his first goal on September 21, 2012 against BV Cloppenburg (1: 1) to take the lead 1-0. In two years he played 45 games in the Regionalliga and scored eight goals. Shirdel also trained with the Bundesliga team and was used in several friendly matches; his contract, which was about to expire, was not extended due to differences between his advisor and the sports management of Hamburger SV.

After a trial at Blackburn Rovers , Shirdel was invited to trial at the English first division club West Ham United in March 2015 . Since he was able to convince, he was offered a contract for the new season; but initially it was to be awarded to later return to West Ham. A move to the Scottish club Glasgow Rangers , where he trained in April 2015, was broken up due to the missed promotion to the Scottish Premiership . After returning to West Ham in the meantime, the striker auditioned in Major League Soccer at Orlando City in May 2015 , but despite good performances, the franchise waived a commitment.

After returning to the club from the London Borough of Newham , Shirdel was again given the opportunity to audition for the new coach Slaven Bilic . Nevertheless, he returned to Hamburg in summer 2015. Through his former teammate at FC St. Pauli Florian Kirschke , he came into contact with ETSV Weiche Flensburg , who played in the Regionalliga Nord . Finally, the club from Flensburg signed the wing player for the 2015/16 season . He made his debut on July 26, 2015 (1st matchday) in a 1-1 draw against BV Cloppenburg , and on the following matchday against VfV Hildesheim (6-1) he scored his first goal to equalize. The ETSV Weiche stayed in the top group of the Regionalliga Nord until the end of the season, in the end they were ranked 3rd; Shirdel contributed six goals and three assists in 25 games. They also reached the SHFV Cup final , where they lost 2-1 to VfB Lübeck , but the striker was not in the squad. As planned, his expiring contract was not extended.

In July 2016, Shirdel completed a trial training session with English third division team Bolton Wanderers , but was not signed. At the end of March 2017, Shirdel signed a two-month contract with Dersimspor in the Landesliga Hamburg until the end of the 2016/17 season. He made his debut on March 31, 2017 (24th matchday) in a 2-1 win against Barsbütteler SV .

National team

Josef Shirdel was nominated for the first time for the Afghan national team for the 2015 South Asian Cup , which finished Afghanistan in second place; Shirdel had to cancel the participation due to health reasons. He made his first appearance on March 24, 2016 in the World Cup qualifier against Japan (0: 5). Just five days later he scored his first international goal against Singapore (2-1) with the intermittent 2-0.
