Josef Suppan

Josef Suppan (born January 9, 1828 in Innsbruck , † July 5, 1902 in Laibach ) was an Austrian lawyer and politician .

Life

Born the son of a forester, Suppan studied law in Innsbruck and Graz after attending grammar schools in Merano , Ljubljana and Innsbruck . During his studies in 1884 he was one of the founding boys of the Carniola Graz fraternity . In 1848 he was a member of the Academic Legion in Innsbruck. After his examination and doctorate in Graz in 1851 as Dr. iur. After several positions he became a lawyer in Hungary in 1854 and worked as a notary in Rudolfswert from 1856 to 1861 . There he was also a councilor . In 1861 he became court and court advocate in Ljubljana. From 1861 he was also a member of the Krainer Landtag . From 1864 to 1883 he was a local councilor and deputy mayor , and from 1869 to 1871 he was mayor of Ljubljana. From 1866 to 1867 he was deputy governor. From 1873 to 1879 he was a member of the Reichsrat , where he belonged to the Progress Club. In 1886 he became the official director of the Krainische Sparkasse in Ljubljana, in 1869 a member of the Imperial Court and in 1895 of the State Court .

His brother was Alexander Supan .
