Joseph Anthony Galante

Joseph Anthony Galante (born July 2, 1938 in Philadelphia , † May 25, 2019 in Somers Point ) was an American clergyman and Roman Catholic Bishop of Camden from 2004 to 2013 .

Life

The Archbishop of Philadelphia, John Joseph Krol , ordained him on May 16, 1964 as a priest of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia .

Pope John Paul II appointed him auxiliary bishop in San Antonio and titular bishop of Equilium on October 13, 1992 . The Archbishop of San Antonio, Patrick Fernández Flores , donated him episcopal ordination on December 11th of the same year ; Co- consecrators were Francis Schulte , Archbishop of New Orleans , and Francis Xavier DiLorenzo , Auxiliary Bishop of Scranton .

He was named Bishop of Beaumont on April 5, 1994, and inducted into office on May 9 of the same year. He was named Coadjutor Bishop of Dallas on November 23, 1999, and inducted into office on January 14 of the next year.

He was named Bishop of Camden by John Paul II on March 23, 2004, and he was instituted on April 30 of the same year. On January 8, 2013, Benedict XVI. his age-related retirement.
