Joseph Baader (historian)
Joseph Baader (born October 28, 1812 in Mittenwald ; † June 6, 1884 in Munich ) was a German historian and archivist .
Life
Baader was born as the son of a Mittenwald instrument publisher. He received his first Latin lessons at the preparatory school near St. Anton zu Partenkirchen . In 1832 he completed his high school studies at the Wilhelmsgymnasium in Munich .
After graduation, Baader worked as a freelance writer until 1842 and as a journalist for the Augsburger Postzeitung from 1842 to 1844 . In 1844 he went to the Reichsarchiv Munich as an intern and in 1852 as an officer at the Archive Conservatory (now the State Archive) in Bamberg . In 1853 he moved to the Archive Conservatory (now the State Archive) in Nuremberg . He headed this from 1854 (provisionally from 1854 to 1856). He was able to convict his predecessor of stealing parchment documents.
In 1869 he moved to the Munich Reich Archives as Reich Archives Councilor , where he worked until his retirement in 1877.
Baader made great contributions to the order of the Nuremberg State Archives , he published sources (for example Nuremberg Police Regulations ) and in particular contributions to cultural and art history. Among other things, he dealt with the dispute between the robber baron Hans Thomas von Absberg and the Swabian Federation , see also Wandereisen-Holzschnitte from 1523 .
