Joseph F. Biroc
Joseph Francis Biroc (born February 12, 1903 in New York City , † September 7, 1996 in Woodland Hills , Los Angeles , California ) was an American cinematographer .
Life
Biroc came to film in 1918 as a film lab assistant at Paragon Studios in Fort Lee , New Jersey . In 1925 he moved to Paramount Studios in Long Island as a camera assistant . In 1927 he became a camera assistant at RKO in Los Angeles. During the Second World War he served in the US Army and filmed the Liberation of Paris in 1944 . After the war he received his first jobs as the first cameraman in Hollywood. In the course of his career he has directed the camera in well over 100 cinema and television films as well as series. His last work was done in 1987.
