Joseph Ernst

Joseph Ernst (born November 26, 1804 in Stadlhof near Teisnach / Lower Bavaria, † February 21, 1869 in Eichstätt ) was a Roman Catholic German theologian .

Life

He received his doctorate in philosophy in 1831 and in theology in 1835 at the Gregoriana and was ordained priest in Rome in 1834 . There he then worked until 1837 as prefect of studies at the Collegium Germanikum. Since 1837 he has been teaching canon law , dogmatics , moral theology and pedagogy at the Eichstätt clerical seminar . In 1837/38 he was chaplain of the parish of St. Walburg in Eichstätt. From 1838 to 1862 he was seminar rain and from 1843 to 1862 Lyceum rector in Eichstätt . From 1844 to 1869 Ernst taught the following subjects as a professor at the Lyceum Eichstätt : from 1844 to 1850 theoretical philosophy and history of philosophy , from 1848 to 1852, from 1855 to 1859 and from 1865 to 1866 education, from 1850 to 1852 moral theology, from 1850 to 1862 pastoral theology , from 1853 to 1862 and from 1863 to 1869 dogmatics. From 1843 to 1859 Ernst was cathedral capitular and from 1859 to 1869 cathedral provost in Eichstätt. His correspondence is kept in the Eichstätt diocesan archive.

In 1863 Ernst was elected to the Bavarian Chamber of Deputies in the constituency of Neumarkt in the Upper Palatinate , but left again in 1865 for health reasons; Josef Edmund Jörg became his successor .
