Joseph "Joey" Hughes (born July 3, 1984 in Springvale ) is an Australian ice hockey player who has been under contract with CBR Brave from Canberra in the Australian Ice Hockey League since 2018 .
Career
Joey Hughes began his career as a hockey player in the Canadian Junior League British Columbia Hockey League , in which he was active from 2000 to 2005 for the Cowichan Valley Capitals and Trail Smoke Eaters. The winger then played for the College of St. Scholastica's team in Division III of the National Collegiate Athletic Association for four years before making his professional ice hockey debut in 39 games for the Pensacola Ice in the 2009/10 season Flyers from the Southern Professional Hockey League scored 21 scorer points, including nine goals. In 2006, 2006 and 2007 the Australian also played in the summer break for Melbourne Ice in the Australian Ice Hockey League . He and his team won the VIP Cup in 2006 for victory in the main round of the AIHL. Since the 2010 season he has been on the ice exclusively for Melbourne Ice in the AIHL. In 2010 he won the Goodall Cup , the Australian championship title, with these straight away . He was able to repeat this success with his team in the following two years. In 2011 he also won the H Newman Reid Trophy with Melbourne Ice as the winner of the main round of the ALIH. In 2014 he switched to local competitor Mustangs IHC , with whom he was able to celebrate their first Goodall Cup victory straight away. But he returned to Melbourne Ice in 2016 and won the Goodall Cup again in 2017. He has been on the ice at CBR Brave since 2018 .
International
For Australia , Hughes only took part in the U20 Junior D World Championship 2000 in the junior division. In the senior sector, he was in his country's squad at the World Championships in Division II in 2004 , 2005 , 2006 , 2007 , 2008 and 2011 and in the World Championships in Division I in 2012 . Especially at the World Cup of Division II in Melbourne in 2011, he was able to convince and with seven goals and four assists in four games played a decisive role in the return of the Australians to Division I. With his points he was both top scorer and top scorer in Group A and was voted their best striker.
