Joseph Otto Roehmer

Joseph Otto Roehmer (born May 26, 1812 in Minden ; † December 16, 1883 in Oberlahnstein ) was royal Prussian major general and most recently inspector of the 1st fortress inspection.

Life

origin

His parents were the privateer Karl Otto Roehmer and his wife Johanna Gebers .

Military career

He got his education at the grammar school in Minden . After graduating, he went on 1 November 1829 volunteers to Koblenz in the 8th Engineering Department. From October 1, 1830 to March 31, 1831 he was posted to the artillery brigade school in Koblenz. After his return he was promoted to portepee ensign . He was then posted to the United Artillery and Engineering School from October 1, 1831 to September 30, 1834 , during which time he was aggregated as a second lieutenant in the 3rd engineer inspection on October 1, 1833 . After his return he was transferred to the 4th engineering department on October 1, 1834, and to the 7th engineering department on October 1, 1836. It was not until November 4, 1840 that he was assigned to the 3rd engineer inspection with a patent on December 23, 1835, and transferred to Cologne on November 1, 1841 for fortification services . On May 23, 1844, he received a commendation from the King for his circumspection and determination in the heavy ice drift on the Rhine .

On April 20, 1847, he was transferred to the 3rd Engineer Inspection as an adjutant , and on July 1, 1848, he was appointed Premier Lieutenant . On June 23, 1849 he was appointed adjutant to the engineering staff of the high command in Baden. During the Baden Revolution he was at the siege of Rastatt and the battles near Bischweier and Kuppenheim . On October 5, 1849, he came to Koblenz for fortification services, before he was transferred to the second engineer inspection and fortification services in the fortress of Erfurt on April 12, 1851 . There he was promoted to captain on November 4, 1851 and appointed commander of the 1st company of the 4th engineer division. On November 28, 1854 he came as a commander in the 2nd Reserve Engineer Company and on November 1st, 1856 in the same position in the 7th Engineer Inspection. But on June 5, 1857 he became an engineer officer from the site in the Jülich Fortress . There he was promoted to major on July 1, 1860, and on June 1, 1861, he was transferred as an engineer officer from the Neisse fortress . He was promoted to lieutenant colonel on June 18, 1865 , awarded the 3rd Class Crown Order on January 18, 1866 and the 3rd Class Red Eagle Order with Ribbon on October 4, 1866 . On December 31, 1866, he was awarded the character as a colonel , and on May 17, 1867, the appointment as inspector of the first fort inspection and the patent as Colonel 30 October 1866. On 7 April 1870, he then board up for grabs asked.

With the mobilization for the Franco-Prussian War , he returned to the 4th fortress inspection on July 18, 1870 as a deputy inspector. He returned to the inactive relationship on May 6, 1871, but received the character of major general on September 21, 1871 . He died on December 16, 1883 in Oberlahnstein.

Roehmer married Maria Luise Dauer on October 15, 1844 in Minden (* July 13, 1824, † August 10, 1895).
