Joseph Vincenz Hofmann

Joseph Anton Vincenz Hofmann (also Joseph Hofmann ; born January 22, 1800 in Innsbruck , † April 26, 1863 in Brixen ) was an Austrian Roman Catholic theologian and clergyman .

Life

Hofmann studied at the universities of Innsbruck and Brixen and at the higher priest educational institute for Saint Augustine, the so-called Frintaneum , in Vienna . In 1823 he was ordained a priest in Brixen . He then worked as a pastor, in the position of an auxiliary chaplain, in Obernberg am Brenner .

Hofmann was appointed prefect of studies at the prince-bishop's seminary in Brixen in 1828. In 1832 he received the professorship in hermeneutics of the new covenant and the Greek language. In 1846 he switched to the chair for morality and education. He was also appointed consistorial councilor. In addition, he acted as president of the marriage court of the diocese of Brixen . In 1854 he was finally appointed Cathedral Capitular at Bressanone Cathedral. He is said to have distinguished himself through a great charity.

He also wrote several articles for Wetzer and Welte's - Church Lexicon or Encyclopedia of Catholic Theology and its auxiliary sciences .
