Joy Garrett

Joy Garrett (born March 2, 1945 in Fort Worth , Texas as Joyce Irene Garrett , † February 11, 1993 in Los Angeles , California ) was an American film and theater actress and singer .

Life

Garrett made her acting debut in 1963 with the role of Janie in Wildcat , which was performed at the Casa Mañana Theater in Fort Worth, Texas. In 1969 she made her New York debut as Joy in Gertrude Stein's First Reader at the Astor Place Theater. Shortly thereafter, she starred in the Broadway plays The Candyapple (1970), in which she impersonated Connie Antonelli and Inner City (1971–1972). This was followed by three appearances in productions of the La MaMa Experimental Theater Club. These were Paul Foster's Silver Queen directed by Robert Patrick (1973), The King's Crown and I (1974), and Paul Foster's Silver Queen Saloon directed by Pat Carmichael (1978).

She made her film debut in 1974 as Barbara in Jack Gold's thriller Der Mann aus Metall . After that she could only be seen in the television films Windows, Doors & Keyholes (1978), Callie & Son (1981), Menschenhandel (1981), The Voice of Death (1982), Flashpoint Mexico (1987) and individual episodes of various television series. For her work in the series Zeit der Sehnsucht she received a Soap Opera Digest Award in 1989 in the category “Outstanding Actress in a Supporting Role: Daytime”. She has not appeared as an actress since 1992. She died of liver failure on February 11, 1993 at the age of 47 .
