action

After Stephan passed away, Solange consoled her best friend Baroness Caroline DuLac over her loss. Both traveled to Greece, where Caroline met and fell in love with a new man in Alan Channing. But the pianist's happiness did not last long. Alan was kidnapped and Caroline was forced to steal three Fabergé eggs as a ransom . She is supposed to travel to Mexico to free Alan, while Spicer chases her on the way to the airport. On the plane itself, the not very charming Mike Chambers joins her and harasses her with his will to want to smoke. She flees from him and only has to find out a little later at Saborca Aeropuerto that he is her only option both to get away from the airport itself and to get to her destination. But during the journey he continues to annoy her and Caroline only hopes that she will get to her destination quickly. Unfortunately, they are surrounded and captured by a Mexican gang, and they are promised to marry Mazo, the gang leader. Mike himself can only buy them out after a lot of bargaining, a lot of alcohol and two dozen hand-rolled Cuban cigars .

However, that costs so much time that they have to spend the night in the desert and the next morning, after a wild chase and shooting with Spicer, they arrive too late for the delivery date. In addition to this disappointment, Mike found the Fabergé eggs in her luggage and she is now on the run from him. She is kidnapped by ominous men who soon turn out to be Ian's followers. He sent her off to get the eggs. Now that he has her, he releases Alan again so that Caroline can take him back into her arms. Rather, she is allowed to leave the next morning. But the good luck does not last long. That night she overhears a conversation between Ian and Alan, in which she learns that both of them not only work together, but also want to try to kill the next morning. So she does everything possible to escape. She meets Mike again, who introduces himself as an Interpol agent and helps her to escape. But soon they are surrounded on the one hand by Spicer and on the other by Ian and Alan, with a shootout in which Spicer is hit. Caroline and Mike use the confusion to escape, barely making it to a train. As dodgers, they are thrown off the train after a while and have to hitchhike to San Gabriel .

On the way, Caroline doubts Mike's Interpol story. But he assures her that he only wants the Fabergé eggs to finally get Spicer behind bars. Caroline tries to help him, but after they arrive in San Francisco , they find out that not only is Solange's apartment surrounded by the police, but Caroline is also mistaken for a criminal. When they then flee from Alan, they both hide in a cheap hotel. From there she calls Solange and arranges a meeting at the train station. There, however, she meets Alan. Solange and Alan are secretly lovers and have set a trap for Caroline. But Mike rushes to help and saves Caroline, followed by Spicer, who turns out to be Lt. Interpol introduces Spicer and arrests them all. After the subsequent testimony, Caroline visits Mike at a gala dinner and dance together.

criticism

Although the film lacks the flair of a masterpiece, this “fast-paced adventure” is pleasant to watch, said Lee Margulies of the Los Angeles Times . In this "vividly led story" by Young, Hepburn's television debut was one of the "greatest joys". However, Margulies also criticized the "lack of chemistry" of the two main actors.

Audrey Hepburn is "still beautiful, although she looks more fragile than usual," said John J. O'Connor of the New York Times . Otherwise the film is neither trying nor will it be remembered for a long time.

Jeff Jarvis panned the film in People magazine. The film is "not worth the videotape on which it was recorded." Overall, the story has a "long, slow and sloppy structure", whereby it is full of "anti-climaxes".

Daniel Ruth of the Chicago Sun-Times described two of the “most popular actors in the film business in their prime” as “uncomfortable to see”, to see such a film. The film “freely borrows” many scenes from other films and would otherwise “revile” its stars.

"The film wants to be so funny [...], so exciting, [...] so romantic," and fails every time, said John Leonard in New York magazine. He also criticized the lack of chemistry between the two main actors. Hepburn “deserved a better setting” and Wagner seemed “satisfied with himself”.

The lexicon of international films said: "In the tradition of lively crime episodes of the 60s [...], the reasonably entertaining film only gains attraction through the main actors."
