Juan José Maíztegui y Besoitaiturria CMF (born April 30, 1878 in Yurreta , Bizkaia , † September 28, 1943 ) was a Spanish clergyman and Roman Catholic Archbishop of Panama .

Life

Juan José Maíztegui y Besoitaiturria joined the Order of the Claretians and was ordained a priest on June 29, 1902 .

Pope Pius XI appointed him on July 14, 1926 as the first Vicar Apostolic of the Apostolic Vicariate Darién established in November 1925 and three days later titular Bishop of Tanais . The Bishop of Los Angeles-San Diego , John Joseph Cantwell , ordained him episcopally on October 17 of that year ; Co- consecrators were John Bernard MacGinley , Bishop of Monterey, California , and Patrick Joseph James Keane , Bishop of Sacramento . The inauguration in Darién took place on January 16, 1927.

In 1932 he was appointed auxiliary bishop in the Archdiocese of Panama and on February 24 of the following year he was appointed Archbishop of Panama. The inauguration took place on March 26, 1933.
