Juan Niccolai

Juan Niccolai OFM (born March 16, 1898 in Chiazzano , Italy ; † August 18, 1976 ) was a Roman Catholic religious and bishop of Tarija in Bolivia.

Life

Juan Niccolai entered the religious order of the Franciscans in and received on 13 August 1922, the priestly ordination .

Pope Pius XII appointed him on February 20, 1944 Coadjutor Bishop of Tarija and Titular Bishop of Rhandus . The Apostolic Nuncio in Bolivia , Archbishop Egidio Lari , donated him episcopal ordination on May 28 of the same year ; Co- consecrators were the Bishop of Potosí , Cleto Loayza Gumiel , and the Bishop of Oruro , Ricardo Chávez Alcazar .

With the death of Ramón Font y Farrés CMF on August 16, 1947, he succeeded him as Bishop of Tarija. He participated in all four sessions of the Second Vatican Council as a council father.

On December 11, 1974, Pope Paul VI. his age-related retirement.
