The location of the southwest region within North Macedonia

The Southwest region ( Albanian  Rajoni jugperëndimor ; Macedonian Југозападен регион Jugozapaden region ) is one of the eight statistical regions , the highest administrative level in the Republic of North Macedonia . The administrative unit is divided into 13 opštini , which represent the lowest administrative level. The region is located in the southwest of the country and borders on Lake Ohrid and Albania . Neighboring regions are Polog in the north, Skopje and Vardar in the northeast and Pelagonia in the east .

Regions in North Macedonia do not fulfill any administrative tasks, but are only there for purely statistical purposes. In some cases, however, they form historical regions that are and were economically and culturally linked.
