Juha Riihijärvi (born December 15, 1969 in Keminmaa ) is a former Finnish ice hockey player who was most recently under contract with HC Bozen in the Italian A1 series . His son Alexis is also a hockey player.
Career
Juha Riihijärvi began his career at Oulun Kärpät where he was under contract for four seasons (two years in the Finnish first division and two in the second). In 1991 he moved to JYP Jyväskylä where he signed a two-year contract. For the 1993/94 season he moved to the American Hockey League , where he stormed for the Cape Breton Oilers . The following year he returned to Finland and signed a contract with Rauman Lukko , which he then held out for the coming year. In 1996, after a good performance in the Finnish national team, he made it into the Swedish first division. There he stormed for Malmö Redhawks for eight years . In the 2004/05 season he moved to the National League B for EHC Basel . In the same season he also played two games in the first division in Switzerland for HC Ambrì-Piotta . From 2005 to 2007 he played for the Malmö Redhawks. In 2007 he moved to Denmark to Rødovre Mighty Bulls where he scored 65 points in 50 games. Juha Riihijärvi also stopped in Austria: he played for the Vienna Capitals in the 2008/09 season . In summer 2009 he switched to the Italian Serie A1 , where he entered into a contract with HC Bozen . Following this season, the Finn ended his playing career.
International
For Finland , Juha Riihijärvi took part in the World Championships in 1992 , 1993 and 1996 .
