Julia was a Viennese rock band that existed from 2000 to 2009 .

Surname

There are several rumors about the origin of the band name:

  • the Beatles song of the same name is said to have been inspiration
  • it comes from the first name of the ex-girlfriend of the band's ex-drummer
  • the name should form a "gentle antipole" in the initial phase, rooted in metal

history

Julia was founded as a cover band in early 2000. The program included songs from bands such as Rage Against the Machine , Deftones and System of a Down . A year later they started to write their own songs. In 2002 and 2003 the band released the EPs Anti Depression Air Condition and Put to Sleep .

With their debut album Songs About Decay , released in January 2004, they developed into a rock star in Austria . Tours in Germany and Switzerland with 4Lyn and Die Happy followed . This was also made possible by the enthusiasm that Julia triggered with her sometimes romantic-melancholy, then again punk-rock style on the Austrian alternative radio station FM4 . The singles Perfect and Estelle in particular were played frequently and were in FM4's top 20 for 5 weeks. In addition, the band was nominated for the Alternative Award as part of the Austrian “Amadeus” music prize.

In 2005, her song Beautiful with new lyrics served as the official song of the 2005 Men's Ice Hockey World Championship , which was held in Vienna and Innsbruck . Julia performed the song at the opening ceremony and reached an audience of millions through the TV broadcast.

On February 10, 2006, the second studio album, Sunrise , was released and helped the band to further increase their popularity. In the meantime, the band has also performed at major festivals such as Southside , Nova Rock and Frequency . In June 2006 Julia also went on a short tour of Germany with Billy Talent .

The Scars We Hide , their third studio album, was released in October 2008 and under the banner of "Last Band Standing Tour", the band 3 Feet Smaller , a friend of theirs , was recorded throughout Austria .

On May 12, 2009, the band announced their end-of-year breakup in a newsletter.

"Why the breakup? There are a lot of reasons and somehow none. Somehow the time was ripe. For something new, for a clear break. We didn't want to continue half-heartedly, play a few gigs a year just for the sake of our egos, that doesn't make any sense either. "

In December 2009 Julia went on a farewell tour through Austria and played her last concert on December 20th at the WUK in Vienna.
