3 Feet Smaller is an Austrian pop-punk / rock band from Vienna .

history

3 Feet Smaller were founded in 2000. In 2001 the band played in the former line-up at one of the most famous Austrian festivals, the Two-Days-a-Week Festival in Wiesen, Burgenland . There they were awarded as the best Austrian act of the festival. Two months later they were the only Austrian act to play at the A2A music fair in Amsterdam .

The first single of the first album was positioned in the FM4 top ten for several weeks . The second single was already known beyond the Austrian borders and for several weeks it was number 1 on the hit list of the Eastern Swiss radio station "toxic.fm".

In 2004, the band's most successful album to date, 3rd Strike, was released. This included the single "Let it out", to this day the band's most famous song. In the same year Schorsch Zwiebelmayer also left the band. The former bass player was replaced by Phillip Hörmann from the Viennese band Dump .

On April 23, 2005 the band celebrated its 5th anniversary in Vienna's WUK . Before the concert, "Der Dipmaster", the band's second guitarist, announced that they would no longer be part of 3 Feet Smaller from that day on. Hörmann took over his part, the bass was taken over by El Howdy, at that time the bass player in the punk rock band No More Encore . In addition, the album 3rd Strike was released in Japan and France in 2005 and 3 Feet Smaller was nominated for the FM4 Alternative Amadeus Award .

In 2006 the film You are dead in 3 days was released . 3 Feet Smaller contributed several songs to the official soundtrack.

Philipp Hörmann left the band in 2007. His position was no longer filled, so that 3 Feet Smaller appeared as a trio after he left.

After the fans had been waiting for a new album by the band for four years, it was released on January 2, 2009. The pre-release single "Lie, Baby, Lie" was released in April 2008. In order to promote the album , a “competition” was started with the befriended Viennese band Julia , who released their new album on October 10, 2008 with the title “The Scars We Hide”. This was called "Last Band Standing". The users could vote online for the better music video for the singles. 3 Feet Smaller came out on top with “Lie, Baby, Lie” against Julia's “A Hell of Speech” with 58% –42%. The battle was followed by a joint tour between the two bands in October / November 2008.

On August 29, 2008 during the performance at the Two-Days-a-Week Festival in Wiesen, the separation from bassist El Howdy was announced, but Phillip Hörmann returned to the band as guitarist. Shortly thereafter, 3 Feet Smaller signed their first major record deal with the major label Sony Music . At the Danube Island Festival 2010, the band played for four for the first time in two years. Markus Jürgensen, previously with No More Encore , joined the band as bassist under the pseudonym "The Reverend".

The band's fifth studio album, called 3FS , was released on June 24, 2011.

At the Amadeus Awards 2012 , the band was named the best alternative act. Shortly before, 3 Feet Smaller had announced a break, but held a few more concerts. They performed at the Frequency Festival 2013 , among others, and in the spring of 2014 they played on the “Reason Unknown Tour” after a long time in some clubs.

At this time the three band members Philipp Hörmann, Frank Schachinger and Markus Jürgensen founded the German-language rock band LIAN. It was planned as a side project, not the end of 3 Feet Smaller. In June 2014 LIAN ( FYI ) released their first EP and in 2016 a self-titled debut album. Marcus Smaller , front man of 3 Feet Smaller, released two solo albums under his name in 2014 and 2016, after having released an album under the project name Alone & Acoustic in 2006.

Live presence

Every year 3 Feet Smaller play around 70 concerts in Austria , Germany and Switzerland . They have also played in Italy , Holland , Hungary , Slovenia and France . They have already played at all major Austrian festivals - including several times at the FM4 Frequency Festival , Two Days A Week , Forestglade and the Novarock Festival, where they supported Green Day in 2005 . They also performed several times at the Danube Island Festival in Vienna.
