Nova Rock
Nova Rock is an Austrian rock music - festival , which in June every year since 2005 Nickelsdorf ( Burgenland takes place). The organizer is Nova Music Entertainment GmbH in cooperation with Musicnet Entertainment GmbH. The managing director of Nova Music and therefore the organizer of the festival is Ewald Tatar, who also co-organized the festivals in Wiesen until 2004 and has been doing this again since 2008 with the Two Days a Week and Lovely Days festivals . Since 2009, Skalar Entertainment GmbH has also been co-organizing the Nova Rock Festival.
In 2020 the Nova Rock had to be canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic in April.
2005
The first Nova Rock was marked by bad weather. Heavy rain and strong gusts of wind did not make it easy for the music fans or the security staff. The muddy ground was particularly demanding. On the second day the festival area was laid out with straw to cover the softened earth with it. 30,000 people came every day, 20,000 of whom were camping. The Red Cross operated the ambulance service and looked after a total of 1,414 people.
2006
In 2006 the festival took place in Nickelsdorf again, this time on a new site ("Pannonia Fields II"). There was a second stage (Blue Stage as main stage and Red Stage as second stage), on which musical greats such as Queens of the Stone Age , The Sisters of Mercy and the Berlin dancehall group Seeed appeared as headliners. Metallica , Placebo and Guns N 'Roses headlined the Blue Stage . Sportfreunde Stiller , Julia , Lagwagon , Subway to Sally , Bullet for My Valentine and Billy Talent were confirmed as the first of a total of 45 bands at the end of December .
A planned appearance by Korn was canceled due to scheduling reasons. The organizers of Nova Rock therefore organized the mini festival “Nova Rock Encore” in the Wiener Stadthalle , where the Deftones , Devil Driver and Soulfly were to play alongside Korn . However, Korn's appearance and the rest of the rest of their European tour were canceled due to a short-term illness of Jonathan Davis, which had already caused him problems at the Rock-am-Ring Festival. The festival took place anyway, with the Deftones as headliners and DevilDriver and Emil Bulls as replacements for Korn.
With over 150,000 visitors over the three days, the festival was very well attended. This made Nova Rock 2006 the largest rock music event that had taken place in Austria up to that point in time. Many visitors also came from abroad. In contrast to the previous year, instead of the storm, most of the visitors suffered from the constant heat of over 30 ° C, which led to circulatory and heat collapses. The paramedics on the site looked after a total of over 2000 visitors.
Due to the rush of festival visitors, there were already major traffic problems on motorways and federal highways in the vicinity of Nickelsdorf on Wednesday. Countless visitors had to put up with waiting times of several hours. In addition to the music program, there were other innovations such as a barbecue area, an oriental tent and a campsite for wheelchair users. The soccer World Cup taking place at this time was also broadcast live on screens.
2007
In 2007 there were some organizational improvements, such as a new traffic concept and adequate sanitary facilities. Furthermore, the Red Stage was equipped with two video walls for the first time. In the course of the last week of advance booking, the Novarock 2007 was sold out. Around 160,000 people came on all three days, surpassing Nova Rock '06. The fans regretted that My Chemical Romance did not play on the Blue Stage on June 17, 2007, as announced, but performed at London's Wembley Stadium at that time .
2008
From June 13th to 15th, 2008 the festival took place in Nickelsdorf again. Due to the 2008 European Football Championship taking place at the same time, tickets were still available until the festival began, but in the end it was sold out. The site has been enlarged by six hectares compared to the previous year. A so-called “Euro-Arena” was also built, which enabled viewers to watch the football matches of the European Championship live. The “Euro-Arena” had a capacity of around 8,000 people.
2009
From June 19 to 21, 2009 the festival took place again in Nickelsdorf. With a width of 56, a height of 16 and a depth of 25 meters, the largest festival stage in Europe was offered.

From June 11th to 13th, 2010 the festival took place in Nickelsdorf on Pannonia Fields II. At the end of January 2010, the band Gossip canceled , although their appearance had been announced for a long time and was also listed as an act on the official homepage of Nova Rock. At the beginning of May the band Heaven and Hell canceled because the singer Ronnie James Dio could not perform for health reasons. On May 16, 2010, he succumbed to cancer. At the beginning of June Sum 41 canceled their performance because Steve Jocz, the drummer of the band, had an accident shortly before and could not get fit until Nova Rock. At the same time as Sum 41, Wolfmother withdrew from the festival because the performance was impossible for health reasons. The Bosshoss appeared as a replacement .
2011
In 2011 the festival took place in Nickelsdorf from June 11th to 13th. A week earlier, all 160,000 tickets were sold out. The hot and dry weather on the first day of the festival in particular was a problem for many visitors and transformed "Pannonia Fields II" into a dusty desert, as in the previous year.
There were a total of five stages: Blue Stage, Red Stage (for the first time equivalent to the Blue Stage), "Abschalten Jetzt" Stage, Jack Daniels Stage and the Red Bull Brandwagen. Headliners were Iron Maiden , System of a Down , Linkin Park and Volbeat .

2012
The Nova Rock Festival 2012 took place from June 8th to 10th again at Pannonia Fields II. In contrast to previous years, this time the festival was characterized by poor weather. A thunderstorm on Friday caused Marilyn Manson and Within Temptation to be canceled. Rise Against was allowed to play a much shortened set one hour late, followed by Linkin Park with a shorter set. As in 2008, there was again an EM area where you could watch the EURO 2012 games . The unsold festival - according to the organizer, the sale of 1,500 tickets was missed - was overshadowed by the death of a 24-year-old man on Friday. This suffered from a heart defect.
