Mallory Knox is a British alternative rock / post-hardcore band from Cambridge, founded in 2009 .
history
The group was founded in Cambridge in August 2009 and has since consisted of singer Mikey Chapman, lead guitarist Joe Savins, rhythm guitarist James Gillet, bassist Sam Douglas, and drummer Dave Rawling. The band name is based on a character from the feature film Natural Born Killers in which Quentin Tarantino participated.
After the group had spent the first three months writing their first tracks, the group moved into the recording studio with Dan Lancaster to record an EP. This is called Pilot , but was only released in June 2011. Shortly before the release, the band signed a record deal with the British label A Wolf At Your Door Records , through which the EP was offered for free download.
In 2012 Mallory Knox played for the first time at the Download Festival . In November and December the band played as the opening act for the English emo band Canterbury on their headlining tour. During 2012 the group released several singles from their debut album Signals , which was released in late January 2013 on A Wolf At Your Door Records. The album made it into the UK album charts , where it placed 33rd. Shortly after the album was released, the band accompanied Don Broco on their national concert tour, and in April 2013 the first tour followed as headliners. About three months later, the group signed a recording deal with Search and Destroy Records , a subsidiary of Sony Music and Raw Power Management .
The group was with the Kerrang! Awards 2013 in the category Best British Newcomer , but the title went to Lower Than Atlantis . A few weeks before the award ceremony, the group played at the Slam Dunk Festival for the first time . Mallory Knox opened the Reading and Leeds Festivals in August . In November 2013, the group started again on a headlining tour through the United Kingdom, which was accompanied by the Blitz Kids . In December it was announced that Mallory Knox would tour the UK in February 2014 with A Day to Remember , Every Time I Die and The Story So Far . The group also toured in December 2014 Support for Tonight Alive and One Ok Rock by Europe , including in Germany .
The group spent the spring and summer on a festival tour. Mallory Knox played again at the Slam Dunk Festival and the Reading and Leeds Festivals. On October 27, 2014, Asymmetry, the second studio album, was released, which also made it into the national charts. It debuted at number 16. The work was at the Kerrang! Awards in 2015 in the category "Best Album", but the award went to Marmozets . In early 2015, the group played on the second leg of Sleeping with Sirens and Pierce the Veil's world tour , which took place in the United States . The group said their second album will be available in the United States in June 2015. At the beginning of June the band performed for the first time at Rock am Ring - which took place for the first time in Mendig - and its sister festival Rock im Park . This was followed by an appearance at the download festival . On June 19, 2015, the group started their second concert tour through North America as part of the Warped Tour . The band was seen on the entire tour. Mallory Knox played on the Monster Energy Stage throughout the Warped Tour with bands like The Amity Affliction , Our Last Night , Silverstein and Being as an Ocean .
On September 24th, 2015 the group will play a concert with We Are the Ocean that will take place as part of the Rugby Union World Cup 2015 . Four days later, on September 28, 2015, the band started their homecoming tour with Set It Off! through the United Kingdom, which ends after ten concerts on October 9, 2015.
In February 2018 the band split from singer Mikey Chapman. Sam Douglas, who was the bass player in the band up to this point, takes over the post of lead vocalist so that the group functions as a quartet.
style
Mallory Knox's style of music is broadly described as alternative rock , which can, however, now and then drift into heavier genres. Influences from post-hardcore can also be heard, such as the young guns or lost prophets celebrate or play. Thomas Becker from Powermetal.de attributes the group a musical similarity to groups like We Are the Ocean and Deaf Havanna .
Jonas Kemme from the online music portal Metal.de describes Mallory Knox's music, for example, as “pop-impregnated rock” that “cheers with slightly hard guitars.” However, he also describes the easily audible borrowings of post-hardcore. British Rock Sound and Dom Lawson of The Guardian write that "Asymmetry musically picks up where signals ended."
