Julie Weißbach (born September 26, 1982 in Dresden ; real name Juliane Weißbach ), also known under the name Julie Danstonoreille (French "Julie in your ear" ), or Julie Etlesarts (French "Julie and the arts" ) is a German artist , illustrator and singer-songwriter .

Life

Julie Weißbach was born in Dresden and grew up in Meißen .

In addition to studying Romance studies at the University of Münster , she studied fine art with Daniele Buetti and Lili Fischer at the Art Academy in Münster and was appointed a master class student by Lili Fischer as part of her studies .

Works

Julie Weißbach became famous for her stop-motion film "Existence Extra Ordinaire", which was made in 2010 as part of her thesis. In 2011 the film was awarded the second prize at both the Konstanzer “kurz.film.spiele_1.8” and the “Shortfilm Slam” of the Lübeck film house . The Konstanz jury called the animation film "a collage, a miniature, a poetic daydream, an ode to art and life". "Existence Extra Ordinaire" received an honorable mention from the jury at the European animation film competition "Kurzschluss" organized by the TV broadcaster Arte .

The nearly eight-minute long film shows the creation of a drawing in fast motion. From second to second, more lines and details of the picture, which shows a group of different people, become visible. At the same time, a piano improvisation by the artist that fits rhythmically with the composition can be heard. She herself explains her work with the words: “ This constant change should make it clear that a lot in life is a question of the right moment. What was "extraordinary", that is, "special", is now "extra ordinary" and therefore "particularly void". So the state of the picture is nothing but a series of constantly emerging, temporary snapshots. ".

The piano music played by Julie Weißbach herself underlines the structure of the picture and dedicates a brief moment in the “spotlight” to each of the people shown. In an interview with the Westfälische Nachrichten she explained: " When I realized that drawing and music are inseparable for me, I looked for a way to combine both, and that's how the film Existence Extra Ordinaire came about ".

People are also the focus of her drawings and photographs. It is about “the dreams and hopes of a young generation that is more oriented towards the external form than towards an all-encompassing idea [...]. This is more than a game with terms, it is a serious game with the possibilities of images and language to cope with a reality that is tipping into surreal. "

music

In addition to art, Julie Weißbach was also known as a singer-songwriter . Since 2000 she has been composing her own songs in German, English and French. In 2008 she released her first independent album “Differently”, followed by the CD “Music for the in-between moments” in 2010 and in December 2014 the album “True Stories”.

In terms of style, Julie Weißbach's music combines singer-songwriter elements, pop and phrasing from the classic song with chanson and gospel . The artist uses the piano not only to accompany songs, but also as a stylistic background for her works of art ( performances ) at art exhibitions.

Julie Weißbach has been giving concerts in northern Germany and Denmark on a regular basis since 2012.

In April 2013, the North German Broadcasting Corporation (NDR) published a short report on Julie Weißbach, entitled “The difficult path to art”.

In November 2016, the radio station NDR 1 Welle Nord broadcast a report about Julie Weißbach.
