Juliette is a settlement in the unincorporated territory in Monroe County in the US state of Georgia with 2839 inhabitants (2000).

Place and history

Juliette was originally called Glover. This name is from a Dr. Glover who ran a cotton mill nearby. After the construction of the railway line, the place was renamed after Juliette McCracken, the daughter of a railway engineer. The city, located near the Ocmulgee River , was created by amalgamating Brownsville and Iceberg. It is part of the Macon metropolitan area .

Juliette as a film set

  • In 1986, Juliette served as the location for A Killing Affair, starring Peter Weller .
  • Juliette became known as the set for the tragic comedy Green Tomatoes, filmed here in 1991, starring Kathy Bates , Mary-Louise Parker and Mary Stuart Masterson in the lead roles. After the shooting, the residents of Juliette renovated the film buildings along the main street, including the working Whistle Stop Cafe , so that it could be used for tourist purposes.
