Julio César Dely Valdés (born March 12, 1967 in Colón ) is a former football player from Panama and current coach.

Career

His two brothers Jorge Dely Valdés and Armando Dely Valdés were also active as football players. His twin brother, Jorge Dely, is currently the coach of Panama's U-17 team.

He made his debut at Atlético Colón in Panama . He traveled to for trial training at the Argentinos Juniors in Argentina , but could not convince and went to Deportivo Paraguayo . But during the season he made a big leap and went to Nacional in Uruguay .

His good performances there - he was the top scorer of the Uruguayan Primera División in 1991 and 1992 - did not go unnoticed by European teams, where he ended up in Cagliari in Italy , Paris Saint-Germain in France and at Real Oviedo and FC Málaga in Spain. As a striker, he was known for his headball strength and he was voted the best player of the 20th century in Panama. After his time in Europe he returned to Nacional and ended his career with Árabe Unido in Panama.

Sporting successes

In 1992 he won the Uruguayan championship in the Primera División Uruguay with Nacional. In Europe, he won the European Cup Winners' Cup with Paris and the UEFA Intertoto Cup or UI Cup with Málaga. He is also the all-time top scorer for Málaga.

He is one of the best goalscorers in history for the Panama national soccer team . He took part in all soccer World Cup qualifications from 1990 to 2006 and in the CONCACAF Gold Cup 2005 , where his team achieved the greatest success in their history with second place.
