Julio Cardinal Rosales y Ras (born September 18, 1906 in Calbayog , Philippines , † June 2, 1983 in Cebu ) was Archbishop of Cebu .

Life

Julio Rosales y Ras studied at the seminary from Calbayog Catholic theology and received on 2 June 1929, the sacrament of Holy Orders . He then worked as a parish chaplain in the Diocese of Calbayog until 1946 .

On June 22, 1946, Pope Pius XII appointed him . as the first bishop of Tagbilaran He was ordained bishop on September 21, 1946 by Guglielmo Piani , Apostolic Delegate in the Philippines; Co- consecrators were Manuel Mascariñas y Morgia , Bishop of Caceres , and Miguel Acebedo , Bishop of Calbayog . His episcopal motto was Te Amari Faciam . On December 17, 1949, Julio Rosales y Ras was appointed Archbishop of Cebu. He attended the Second Vatican Council from 1962 to 1965 . On April 28, 1969, Pope Paul VI took him . as a cardinal priest with the titular church Sacro Cuore di Gesù agonizzante a Vitinia in the cardinals college . On August 24, 1982 Pope John Paul II accepted his resignation from the Codex Iuris Canonici for reasons of age.

Julio Rosales y Ras died on June 2, 1983 in Cebu and was buried in the local cathedral . His brother was the politician Decoroso Rosales , who was among other things a member of the Senate .
