The Jumbo Kingdom ( Chinese  珍寶 王國  /  珍宝 王国 , Pinyin Zhēnbǎo Wángguó , Jyutping Zan 1 bou 2 Wong 4 gwok 3  - "Kingdom of Precious Treasures") is a tourist attraction in the port of Aberdeen , a city in the south of the Chinese island of Hong Kong Island .

It consists of two large floating restaurant ships and has been visited by more than 30 million guests so far.

history

Shortly after the end of the Second World War, the first floating restaurants appeared in Aberdeen Harbor. Two large restaurants have survived to this day: the Jumbo Floating Restaurant ( 珍寶 海鮮舫  /  珍宝 海鲜舫 , Zhēnbǎo Hǎixiānfǎng , Jyutping Zan 1 bou 2 Hoi 2 sin 1 fong 2 ) and the adjacent Tai Pak Floating Restaurant ( 太白 海鮮舫  /  太白 海鲜舫 , Tàibái Hǎixiānfǎng , Jyutping Taai 3 baak 6 Hoi 2 sin 1 fong 2 ).

The Tai Pak was completed in 1952, the larger jumbo was to open in 1971. However, a major fire on October 30, 1971, in which 34 workers were killed, required extensive repairs.

During the multi-year renovation, essential elements of the imperial Chinese architecture were used as decoration. This also includes small pagodas and golden dragons . After the repairs were completed in October 1976, both ships, which are moored together, were merged as an economic unit and officially founded as the Jumbo Kingdom by the Chinese entrepreneur Stanley Ho . The management is subject to Melco International Development Ltd .

In 2003 the ships were again extensively renovated; In addition to the previous restaurants, shopping opportunities and cultural offers were also created. A Chinese tea garden , a cooking school and conference facilities are also offered.
