history

The ensemble was founded in autumn 1992 by music-loving students as an offshoot of the Collegium Musicum of the Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg . In the early years, conductors Ronald Scheuer and Jochen Grab led the orchestra. From 1997 on the musical direction was taken over by Vladimir Kowalenko. After his resignation in 2008, a phase followed with conductors changing semesters. From 2010 the ensemble was led alternately by Gordian Teupke and Mathias Bock (both from Nuremberg). Tristan Uth (St. Gallen) has been a permanent conductor alongside Gordian Teupke since 2013. For the twentieth anniversary of the orchestra, its members had been with the orchestra for an average of ten years. The majority of the orchestra members are now employed. The proportion of women among musicians is two thirds.

The orchestra made several concert tours to other European countries, including Russia, Poland, France and Sweden.

In February 2018 the orchestra celebrated its 25th anniversary with two concerts in Erlangen's St. Matthew Church under the direction of conductors Gordian Teupke and Tristan Uth .

Rehearsals and concerts

The orchestra takes part in two rehearsal phases per year, the dates of which are based on the lecture times (rehearsal date is Sunday evening). The concerts themselves take place at the end of the semester in Erlangen's Heinrich-Lades-Halle. The concert programs range from classical and romantic orchestral works to tango and film music compositions. As a rule, a solo concert is performed in every program , to which numerous well-known soloists have been engaged in the past, including:

Under the direction of Tristan Uth, the Junge Philharmonie gave the world premiere of the tuba concert UN-T-SO in February 2015 , which the Austrian composer Thomas Ludescher dedicated to the soloist Øystein Baadsvik . As early as 1995 the ensemble had commissioned Concerto for Orchestra by Gernot Adrion premiered.
