from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Justus von Liebig Prize was the first prize after the Second World War that was awarded by the Alfred Toepfer Foundation FVS . It was named after the German chemist Justus Liebig (1803–1873) and was donated by the Hamburg businessman, farmer and honorary citizen Alfred Toepfer , who founded the FVS Foundation in Hamburg in 1931 and gained international renown from the 1960s onwards . Since 2007 it has been awarded every two years as the Justus von Liebig Prize for World Food , now by the fiat panis foundation .

history

The prize, made available by the FVS Foundation from 1949 to 2006, was awarded annually to personalities or associations who have made a special contribution to European agriculture in the scientific field or in practice. In 1949 the focus was still on the food situation in Germany, later it was the world food situation that was used as the criterion for the award of the award.

The Justus von Liebig Prize was awarded for the last time by the Toepfer Foundation in 2006. In 2007 it was replaced by the Alfred Toepfer Prize , which is intended to honor innovative or exemplary research or work approaches in the fields of nature conservation , agriculture, agricultural research and forestry .

Goal setting

From 2007 onwards, the Father and Son Eiselen Foundation continued to advertise and award the prize. With the changed objectives, the name was changed to Justus von Liebig Prize for World Food .

In 2009 the Eiselen Foundation Ulm awarded the Justus von Liebig Prize for World Food for the first time to the Kenyan Godrick Khisa for his outstanding work against hunger and rural poverty .
