Jutta Weber (born June 28, 1954 in Hamm ) is a former German swimmer who competed for the Federal Republic of Germany . She won medals at the Olympic Games as well as World and European Championships.

Career

Swimming career

She started her career at SC Rote Erde Hamm , but then switched to Wasserfreunde Wuppertal to work under coach Heinz Hoffmann . There she succeeded in advancing to the expanded world class.

She already took part in the European Championships in Barcelona in 1970, but remained there without a medal. At the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich, she was the first German female swimmer to stay below the limit of one minute over 100 meters freestyle in 59.72 seconds, but narrowly missed the finals in ninth place. With the 4 × 100 meter freestyle relay, she won the bronze medal behind the teams from the USA and the GDR .

In 1973 the first swimming world championship took place in Belgrade , where Jutta Weber was sixth in the 100 meter freestyle. With the freestyle relay and the layer relay, she won a bronze medal each.

At the 1974 European Swimming Championships in Vienna , the 4 × 100 meter individual relay won silver.

In 1975 at the World Swimming Championships in Cali Weber was again sixth over 100 meters freestyle. At the 1976 Olympic Games in Montreal , she finished eighth in the freestyle final in 57.26 seconds. With the freestyle relay she also reached eighth place, while she was spared in the layer relay in the preliminary run, the layer relay did not reach the final.

Jutta Weber won the 100 meter and 200 meter freestyle titles at the German Swimming Championships in 1972 . She repeated this double victory in 1973 , 1975 and 1976 . In 1977 she won again in the 100 meter distance. In addition to the nine German championship titles in an individual discipline, Jutta Weber set over 20 German records in the course of her career.

Private career

Jutta Weber married her teammate Folkert Meeuw , the couple have three children, including Helge Meeuw , who is also a swimmer. Jutta Meeuw works as a general practitioner in Wiesbaden .
