Käte Ledig-Schön (born February 25, 1926 in Darmstadt ; † January 31, 2014 ) was a German artist, graphic designer and writer .

Life

Käte Schön was born in Darmstadt during the Weimar Republic in 1926, but attended a school in Hamburg-Harburg during the National Socialist era . While still at school, she was driven to Hamburg-Dammtor with many others and had to cheer for the “Führer” while Adolf Hitler was passing through , as she later explained in the film series Gedächtnis der Nation .

After the Second World War , Käte Schön studied at the Hamburg University of Fine Arts in Lerchenfeld before she later continued her graphic education.

In addition to small sculptures , Käte Ledig-Schön, who took her maiden name again after her divorce, created colored pencil and pen drawings, illustrations, lithographs, screen prints and collages.

She explained her creations at the end of the 20th century as follows:

“Lines and shapes are created directly, without prior construction. The works can only be interpreted afterwards, the topics range from accusatory to playful. I tend more and more to weave individual words or sentences into my drawings. "
