history

Köhlershohn originally belonged to the Honschaft Rederscheid in the parish of Windhagen and was under the administration of the Electoral Cologne office of Altenwied . On the northern edge of the village ran the lordly border with the Duchy of Berg , which was marked by a boundary stone in Köhlershohn under the sovereignty of the Duchy of Nassau (from 1806) . Until the beginning of the 19th century the place was called Hahn , which can be derived generally from "Hain" or "Hagen" (= enclosed land). Then the name was initially Köhlershahn ( also "Kölnisch Hohn" on land maps ), before it developed into its current form at the end of the 19th century at the latest. The place is called "Schottejeröüel" in dialect .

In Prussian times (from 1815) Köhlershohn remained part of Honschaft later community Rederscheid, since 1823, in the municipality of mayoralty Asbach . In the context of censuses , the place was recorded as a courtyard at least until 1828 , in 1843 as a hamlet with two residential and four farm buildings , and until 1885 it only grew to a size of four residential buildings. A growth in which the population doubled by the beginning of the 20th century only began afterwards. In 1930 the village was connected to the power supply and received a water pipe. The local children attended the Catholic elementary school in Hallerbach , which was converted into a primary school in 1968.

As part of the Rhineland-Palatinate administrative and territorial reform , Köhlershohn was incorporated into the municipality of Windhagen on November 7, 1970 with the Rederscheid municipality. The district belonging to the former municipality of Rederscheid remained. In 1977 Köhlershohn was connected to the gas supply network.
