history

Due to the topographical location of Rederscheid, one can assume that the present location was settled in the Celtic period around the 6th century BC. Go out.

Documented in appearance of the site in 1660 came under the name Redtscheid in taking inventory in Electoral Cologne office Altenwied than here five houses were counted. Rederscheid was the main town and namesake of one of the two honors that made up the Windhagen parish in the Altenwied district. The honor was initially also referred to as the Hohner honor . In 1803 the honor came as part of the Altenwied office to the Prince of Wied-Runkel and in 1806 to the newly formed Altenwied office in the Duchy of Nassau . After the Rhineland was ceded to Prussia at the Congress of Vienna in 1815, Rederscheid was assigned to the mayor's office of Altenwied in the Neuwied district in 1817 . In 1817 the main town was registered as a hamlet with 56 inhabitants and had a grinding mill . After the dissolution of the mayor's office Altenwied, the Honschaft and its territory came to the mayor's office in Asbach and was renamed “Municipality of Rederscheid” in 1845 at the latest. In 1931 Rederscheid received its own post office as an official office of the Linz Post Office, whose delivery area also included Hallerbach and Schweifeld.

As part of the administrative and territorial reform of Rhineland-Palatinate , the previously independent municipality of Rederscheid with 728 inhabitants and an area of 5.95 km² was incorporated into the municipality of Windhagen on November 7, 1970. The districts and residential areas Frohnen, Günterscheid , Hallerbach , Hohn , Hohner Mühle , Köhlershohn and Schweifeld belonged to the municipality of Rederscheid . Even after the incorporation, these belong to the existing Rederscheid district .

The once agricultural village no longer has a working farm. It has developed into a more affluent place to live, with the village growing along the thoroughfare towards the northwest (Rottbitze). At the beginning of the 1970s, a conference hotel was built on the eastern edge of Rederscheid (today Dormero Hotel Bonn-Windhagen ), which is surrounded by an 18- hole golf course that was gradually laid out until the beginning of the 1990s . In April 2014, the hotel, which was fully occupied to the last, was closed due to structural defects, and it was reopened under a new operator in autumn 2015. There is a riding stables not far from the hotel building. The village currently has around 400 inhabitants in around 100 households.

In the vernacular the place was previously called "Rätschend", also " Kölsch Rätschend" to distinguish it from the nearby town of Retscheid , which was then called " Berich Rätschend".
