Cologne Society for Christian-Jewish Cooperation

The Cologne Society for Christian-Jewish Cooperation , with approx. 850 members, is the largest society in the German Coordination Council of Societies for Christian-Jewish Cooperation . The society has published publications dealing with, among other things, the Jewish history of Cologne, the Nazi history of Cologne and educational work against anti-Semitism . The chairman of the Cologne Society is Jürgen Wilhelm . Other board members include Horst Matzerath and Ulrich Soénius .

Every year the Cologne Society awards the Giesberts-Lewin Prize. It organizes its own events for the Week of Brotherhood . Jewish culture and personalities are presented in a series of events. Educational work against racism and anti-Semitism is carried out. The Cologne Society takes a position on current issues and urban politics and is active against right-wing extremism in Cologne.

The Cologne Society for Christian-Jewish Cooperation annually donates an honorary award for outstanding voluntary commitment to the promotion of Christian-Jewish dialogue, youth exchanges between Israel and the Federal Republic of Germany and for a resolute stand against racist and anti-Semitic tendencies and for tolerance and international understanding in politics, Society and culture. The aim is to acknowledge previous achievements and encourage future action. The award commemorates Johannes Giesberts (1909–1981) and Shaul Lewin (1905–1986).
